Academic Standards

Louisiana Standards Alignment Process

Louisiana adopted the Louisiana Student Standards for mathematics and English language arts in the spring of 2016 and is proposing a set of aligned expectations to ensure the standards are accessible to students with significant cognitive disabilities and students with English language learning (ELL) needs. The Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) will consider this proposal this winter.

Louisiana Connectors for Students with Significant Cognitive Disabilities

The Louisiana Connectors identify essential knowledge and skills that students with significant cognitive disabilities must master in order to be prepared for a successful life after high school. The Louisiana Connectors represent the most salient grade-level, core academic content in English and math found in the Louisiana Student Standards.

Louisiana English Language Proficient (ELP) Standards

The goal of the Louisiana ELP expectations is to help students with English learning needs acquire the content knowledge and English proficiency necessary to be successful in school. The Louisiana ELP expectations highlight what students do with language to accomplish content-specific tasks and language form (vocabulary, grammar, and discourse specific to a particular content area or discipline) which are needed by ELLs as they develop competence in the practices associated with English language arts (ELA) & literacy, and mathematics.
