Academically Unacceptable Schools
Schools that earn an F are designated as an Academically Unacceptable School.
In 2012, Louisiana had 157 Academically Unacceptable Schools, compared to 115 schools last year. The increase was the result of a higher bar for earning a D letter grade, moving the required School Performance Score from a 65 to a 75.
Schools that are designated as Academically Unacceptable must implement specific strategies to improve academic achievement. The specific strategies are based on the length of time a school has the designation. Academically Unacceptable Schools have six levels of remediation (AUS 1 – AUS 6+).
For every year a school is designated as Academically Unacceptable, the school moves to a different level of remediation.
All schools that are designated as Academically Unacceptable must offer students school choice.
