STATEMENT FROM SUPERINTENDENT JOHN WHITE CONCERNING LOUISIANA SUPREME COURT RULING ON ACT 1

May 31, 2013

BATON ROUGE, La. - Today, the Louisiana Supreme Court handed down a ruling vacating the judgment of the district court concerning Act 1 of the 2012 Regular Legislative Session, remanding the case back to the lower court.

"Act 1 empowers school leaders to choose the best teachers for their students. It rewards good teaching and protects top teachers in the event of layoffs. Special interests have opposed these common sense ideas. It is encouraging for the children of Louisiana that the Supreme Court has asked the lower court to reconsider its decision."
