Network Teams Support School District Planning; Teacher Leaders Provide Colleagues with Better Resources and Professional Development

BATON ROUGE, La. – In case you missed it, the U.S. Department of Education (USDOE) recently showcased two Louisiana initiatives aimed at supporting districts and preparing public school educators. Two nationally-published articles emphasize both the work and benefits of the Department’s Network Teams and Teacher Leaders.

“It is great to see Louisiana’s successful initiatives showcased on a national level, for our peers in other states to see how our educators here are supporting each other and improving academics,” said State Superintendent John White. “Congratulations to our Teacher Leaders and Network Teams for receiving the national spotlight they’ve worked so hard for and deserve.”

Created in 2012, both Louisiana’s Teacher Leaders and Network Teams provide support to teachers and administrators across the state. More than 5,000 Teacher Leaders create and implement collaboration between fellow teachers to reflect on student learning results, access and adjust planning tools to meet student needs, specifically by utilizing the Classroom Support Toolbox, and share instructional best practices to help fellow teachers improve.

Network leaders support district and school administrators through direct, on-the-ground consultation, technical assistance, training, and planning. Their teams work with district leaders on setting instructional goals in each classroom; observing classroom practice; using Louisiana Student Standards aligned assessments; facilitating teacher collaboration; and cultivating instructional leaders in schools.
