Local Charter Authorizer REQUEST FOR APPLICATIONS

Local Charter Authorizers are one component of the Call for Quality Options – the Louisiana Department of Education’s initiative to find high-quality educational options for the 200,000 students that are currently stuck in D and F schools in our state. Non-profit organizations, post-secondary institutions, and state agencies may apply to authorize charter schools in all or part of one of Louisiana’s eight Regional Labor Market Areas.

Local Charter Authorizers will be uniquely positioned in Louisiana to specialize in the discovery, development, authorization and oversight of high-quality charter schools in limited geographic areas with which they are intimately familiar. Louisiana joins sixteen other states and the District of Columbia in allowing non-traditional charter authorizers.

The dashboard on the Call for Quality Options page is a useful resource for applicants seeking to learn more about the communities they are interested in serving.

Please return to this website in the fall for information on the next application process for local charter authorizers.
