Louisiana Principal Fellowship Program

The Louisiana Principal Fellowship Program partners with the National Institute for School Leaders (NISL) to offer a year-long leadership development program for school and school system leaders in all stages of their careers. 

The Principal Fellowship builds participants’ skills to: 

  • Lead and sustain transformational change

  • Implement high-quality curriculum aligned to state standards

  • Strategically build a cadre of talented educators by maximizing the efforts of Content Leaders, Mentor Teachers, and other staff members

  • Create equitable opportunities and facilitate high expectations for all students

  • Continuously improve using multiple sources of data to make decisions about instruction and workforce talent

Principal Fellows Receive:

  • 12 NISL units throughout the school year

  • A regional cohort of leaders for networking and continued support

  • One-on-one assistance creating a leadership project applicable to your school context

  • Certificate of Executive Training from NISL/opportunities for further training

  • Recognition of participation on your Louisiana Certification Record

  • This program fulfills the 240 hours required for an Educational Leader Level 1 (EDL 1) license through Alternative Pathway 2 (Documentation of completion is required, See Bulletin 746)

The 12 NISL Units Are Embedded Into Three Courses:

Course 1: World-Class Schooling: Vision and Goals
Course 2: Focus on Teaching and Learning
Course 3: Sustaining Transformation through Capacity and Commitment
