JOINT STATEMENT FROM STATE SUPERINTENDENT OF EDUCATION JOHN WHITE AND BOARD OF ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION PRESIDENT PENNY DASTUGUE

Jun 04, 2012

Reference: 2012 Regular Legislative Session

"We would like to commend both houses of the Legislature for the courage and commitment members showed on education legislation this session.  From increasing options for thousands of families, to ensuring every teacher is effective for our children, Louisiana’s Legislature has rightly earned praise from across the state and the nation for its focus on education.

In turn, the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) and the Louisiana Department of Education are committed to implementing these laws through policies that mirror the priorities of lawmakers.  Lawmakers should be assured that their vision for accountability will be matched by our commitment to ensure the public’s tax dollars are spent responsibly.  Most important, we share the desire of Governor Jindal and legislators: that all children in our state are on track to becoming productive adult citizens of this great state."

John White Penny Dastugue
