NEW ORLEANS - In an effort to be more accessible for families and parents and to be closer to business and community partners, today, the Recovery School District (RSD) announced the move of its office from Poland Ave., to a more centrally-located site in the Central Business District in New Orleans. The district will move to its new location at 1615 Poydras St., Ste. 1400, on Sept. 4.

"As the RSD continues to evolve and improve, we want to make certain we are always putting the needs of our parents and students first," said RSD Superintendent Patrick Dobard. "This move will make our office more accessible for our parents who may need to meet with our staff or need to visit other state and local agencies in close proximity."

In addition to a more central location for parents, the move will yield a cost savings of more than $270,000 over the span of the three-year lease.

"We will be able to use the cost savings from the move directly to our schools and children," added Dobard. "We recognize that the RSD is an ever evolving district of schools. As more direct-run schools are awarded to high performing operators, there is no longer a need to operate in post-Katrina crisis mode; thus, moving from a space that served us well seven years ago, is part of a natural process. Over the years, we have reduced staff as well as the number of direct-run schools, and we looked at this move strategically, and from a common sense stand point."

Besides the new centrally-located office site, the RSD will continue offering critical services through its three well-staffed Parent Center locations throughout the city, which are also easily accessible to families, and can provide assistance with most academic and enrollment needs and concerns.

The Parent Centers are located at:

  • Sarah T. Reed High School, 5316 Michoud Blvd.
  • L.B. Landry High School, 1200 L.B. Landry Ave.
  • Walter L. Cohen High School, 3520 Dryades St.

The RSD Hearing Office will be located at the Central Office. There will be designated parking for families attending hearings as well as those conducting business at the RSD.

The Central Office phone number will remain the same: (504) 373-6200.
