Back to School Video Highlights Louisiana Students, Families, and Educators

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Department of Education today announced that State Superintendent John White will kick off a back to school tour, beginning in September, with the goal of highlighting innovative, exciting work across the state. Stops along the tour will be determined through the suggestions of educators, as communicated in a statewide email to all teachers. Principals and teachers have been asked to email or tweet their ideas for stops on the tour to highlight the most innovative, exciting work happening across the state.

In addition to calling for submissions to design this back to school tour, Superintendent White also welcomed educators and students back to school through a video that features Louisiana students, educators, and families. This video spotlights students reflecting on the ACT and in Advanced Placement classes, families describing the impact of increased school choice, and educators increasing the rigor of standards and assessments and using Compass as a professional development tool. “It’s incredibly important to highlight the creativity and effectiveness of teachers and principals across the state. This teacher-designed tour will help share the best ideas we have in our state to produce results for students,” said State Superintendent John White. “It also offers the opportunity to applaud our students. Louisiana students are just as capable as any across the country, and I am excited to see their hard work on display. The 2013-2014 school year has the potential to be our best yet, and this tour will spotlight all of the great work happening in Louisiana education.”

This video and the fall tour are part of implementing Louisiana Believes, the state’s plan for ensuring all students are on a path toward a college degree or a professional career.
