OneApp Continues to Ensure All Families Given Equal Access to Participating New Orleans Schools

NEW ORLEANS - The Recovery School District (RSD) and the Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB) today announced the launch of the OneApp application. Students new to New Orleans' public schools, or seeking to transfer to a new school for the 2015-2016 school year, should submit a OneApp during the main round, open from November 3 through February 27, 2015.

EnrollNOLA is committed to ensuring that all students have fair, equitable access to all public schools. OneApp is a fair and transparent annual process granting families the ability to apply to their preferred schools based on whichever values or interests are most important to them, regardless of neighborhood or socioeconomic background.

Now in its fourth year, OneApp continues to increase school access for New Orleans students and families: 89 percent of public schools now participate in the centralized enrollment process, including four new school options, fourteen NSECD pre-kindergarten programs, and all Orleans Parish non-public schools participating in the Louisiana Scholarship Program. New schools include OPSB charter schools Foundation Preparatory, Cypress Academy and TMCF Collegiate Academy as well as Type 2 charter Milestone Academy. Over 100 public K-12 programs and nearly 50 Pre-K programs are included in this year's application packet, with a diversity of offerings ranging from college prep, STEM, gifted and talented, career/tech, accelerated programming, language immersion, music and the arts, and more.

OneApp is also expanding its online portal. For the first time this year parents will be able to submit online applications in Spanish and Vietnamese. In the past, only paper applications have been available for download in translation. EnrollNOLA recommends all families submit their applications online for greater convenience, quicker results notification, and the opportunity to easily make updates to parent contact information or preferences. Families can submit a OneApp at participating schools, online, or at a Family Resource Center.

The deadline for submitting main round early window applications is December 19; the deadline for the standard window is February 27. Some schools and programs with selective admissions processes require families submit applications during the early window. These schools are listed in the application packet. Results will be available at Family Resource Centers and participating schools the week of April 6. Families who receive a match must claim their assigned seat by May 15, 2015.

Important notes for families to remember when participating in the OneApp process:

  • Any application submitted with a valid email address listed will receive an electronic application receipt. This is important in case you need to reference your application with your family and/or EnrollNOLA staff. Additionally, applicants with email addresses will receive notification as soon as placement results are released, without having to wait for a letter by mail.
  • Parents should not submit an application if they would like their child to return to his/her current school. If you submit a OneApp and are assigned to a choice, you will lose your guarantee to return to your current school.
  • If you are filling out an application for siblings, fill out one application form per child. If you are applying for more than one student to attend a new school together, make sure you list your school selections in the same order of preference.
  • We will only process the most recent application submitted. If your school preferences change and you submit another application, it will overwrite any previous application.
