EnrollBR Aims to Ensure Fair Access to K-12 Education, Streamline School Application Process

BATON ROUGE, La. -- The Baton Rouge Achievement Zone (BRAZ) today launched a common application process for 14 area schools to ensure all children have fair access to an excellent education. The process, called Enroll Baton Rouge (EnrollBR), aims to empower families with school choice by providing them information about BRAZ schools and streamlining the school enrollment process through the ease of one centralized application system, rather than separate applications for each school.
"Today, Baton Rouge families have more choices in their child's education than ever before," said Dana Peterson, Assistant State Superintendent and CEO of BRAZ. "The goal of EnrollBR is to simplify the process and make it easier for families to explore the choices available to them."
EnrollBR is available to families who are applying to a BRAZ school for the first time or to those wanting to apply to a new BRAZ school for the 2018-2019 school year. Families are encouraged to visit the EnrollBR web page at to find out more information on the 14 participating schools, and to apply to a school of their choice. A limited amount of paper applications are also available at libraries across Baton Rouge and at the participating schools.

Families accessing the online system will be required to create a family profile through which they can apply to a school for each individual child enrolling in a new school. Families opting for the paper application will be required to fill out separate applications for each child enrolling in a new school. Families will not be able to apply directly to a participating school outside the EnrollBR process.
Unlike OneApp, New Orleans' common application process, EnrollBR is not a "single best offer" system; families can apply to as many participating schools as they choose, and if the seats are available, they will be accepted. Families will then be required to select the school that best fits their unique child's needs.
The EnrollBR common application process will consist of a general application round and a post application round. The general application round will begin December 6, 2017, close February 23, 2018, and parents will be notified of their enrollment offer by March 9, 2018. Families who apply by the February 23 deadline will receive priority. The post-application round will begin February 24, 2018, close when seats are filled, and seats will be offered on a rolling basis.
"We think this is great for parents because it gives them the opportunity to explore multiple schools and make informed decisions about the best option for their children," said Linda Johnson, Board President of GEO Foundation, which manages two participating schools, and a former member of the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.
Caroline Roemer, Executive Director of the Louisiana Association of Public Charter Schools, agreed: "It is important that we are creating a system that is fair and easy for parents to access, and allows schools to design programs and staff around the needs of their students."
