Digital Schools
To prepare students for success in 21st century economy, schools must use 21st century tools, including technology.
Technology is the gateway to individualized instruction and personalized learning. The Internet and a proliferation of devices – from laptops to tablets – allow students to learn virtually anywhere and anytime. Interactive and adaptive content allows students to learn at their pace, ensuring all students master the more rigorous academic expectations that have been adopted by Louisiana.
Technology Footprint
In Louisiana, the transition to digital learning is underway. In 2014-2015, schools will administer all of their assessments and end-of-course tests online. To support school districts in the transition to technology-rich schools, the Louisiana Department of Education developed a technology footprint for each school district based on the data provide in their response to the Technology Readiness Tool. The technology footprint provides a snapshot of the digital readiness of schools and, like the digital world we live in, the technology footprint is constantly changing and improving.
Sixty-seven districts and charters participated in the Technology Readiness Tool collection. The survey was conducted entirely online and addressed five issues: devise specification readiness, devise-to-test readiness, network and technical infrastructure readiness, staffing and training readiness, and facility readiness.
