Jump Start - Career Education

Jump Start is the state’s new program for school districts, colleges, and businesses to collaborate in providing career courses and workplace experiences to high school students, certifying them for the career fields most likely to lead to high-wage jobs.

Jump Start will be an elective path for students pursuing a university-preparatory diploma, and a required path for students pursuing a Career Diploma.

Jump Start will ensure students access to state-of-the-art facilities, equipment, and professionals to prepare during their high school schedules for careers in Louisiana’s high-growth job sectors.  Regional Jump Start teams will identify career opportunities important specifically to each region of the state, for which students may earn industry credentials. By offering credentials that give graduates a leg up in Louisiana’s economy of today and tomorrow, Jump Start will prepare our high school graduates for a productive adulthood.

2015 Jump Start Convention

Thank you for attending the inaugural 2015 Jump Start Convention. Your participation in the convention is the catalyst needed to provide Jump Start to the future workforce of Louisiana, our students. Together, we can “Build the Plan” that will offer Louisiana students access to pathways that lead to a prosperous career and future.

To ensure future Jump Start events are beneficial and meet the needs of all attendees and stakeholders, we encourage your feedback and suggestions. Please take a few minutes to complete a brief 2015 Jump Start Convention Survey.

To access the Convention presentations and other Jump Start resources, please visit the Jump Start Library.

Thanks for your all your efforts to “Build the Plan” to offer Jump Start to students and make their families aware of the opportunity.

Jump Start Counselor Collaboration Meetings

In an effort to operationalize Jump Start implementation at the school level, LDOE Network teams will be presenting statewide Professional School Counselor sessions targeting middle and high school counselors. Sessions will focus on aligning student planning with the elements of JumpStart and should be attended in lieu of the Jump Start Convention. Counselors will understand the unique components of Integrated, Regional and Statewide Career Pathways, the courses (and scheduling features) that support earning credentials leading to the TOPS Tech Career Diploma as well as updates to Transitional 9th Grade, and the TOPS University Diploma requirements and Accountability.
